I have had my fair share of struggles with acne. A few years ago it was horrible. I tried proactive… all it did was burn and dry out my skin, making my acne worse. Then I tried antibiotics which did nothing. Then, I moved onto accutane which yes… it completely healed my acne. But it was a horrible process… my face was always dry, red, and peeling. And when I say dry…. I mean so dry that my lips would peel until they bled. Since then, I have focused on more natural skin care remedies to clear my acne, today I will be sharing my skin care tips.
here are my biggest skin care tips
Keep in mind that acne is different for everyone, my skin is on the drier side. Different things also play into acne like stress and hormones so give yourself some grace and don’t stress too much, you are beautiful!
1… Eat lots of Whole Foods. As much as I preach eating what you crave and that it is okay to indulge… If you think your body is craving Big Macs for very meal then you probably haven’t let it thrive off of unprocessed foods in a non restrictive way. I do believe that you are what you eat. Not in a way of if I eat oil or burgers I will be fat, but in a way of if you eat fast food for every meal, it will show in your skin. Eating lots of fruits and veggies that are full of vitamins is so good for your skin and it is one of my top tips to clearing up your skin!
2… Drink lots of water! No need to go into depth but proper hydration is super important for your skin and entire body!
3… Stop touching your face!! The oils from your hands will make you break out! This sounds so stupid but it’s true, I have noticed when I touch my face I break out way more. Also do not pick your pimples. Yes, it is a temporary fix but trust me… I had acne scarring for years because I picked my pimples.
4…. Charcoal. Charcoal is so good for your skin, I use a natural charcoal and tea tree oil soap bar to wash my face. I also use the charcoal face mask from Beautycounter and I love it. It is made with natural ingredients and it always leaves me feeling clean and refreshed.
5… The sun and salt water. My all time favorite skin remedies. I haven’t been able to get into the ocean recently because it is still pretty cold. Over the summer, I go in the ocean pretty much every day and the salt water just makes my skin look and feel so good! And the sun, man… it does amazing things for your skin. Make sure you wear sunscreen! I have been having some bad breakouts recently because I have been stressed but I spent this past weekend in the sun, and my skin pretty much completely cleared up!
Remember, what works for me might not work for you, so take this with a grain of salt. My last tip is to find a few products that work for you and stick to them. I literally only use 3 products on my skin because it is sensitive. Find what works for you and try to stick to it because constantly switching it up is not the best for your skin!
